Expand Your Imagination and Unleash Your Creativity

Dream Makers Studio, a theatre arts learning organization for children and adults, offers a broad-range of classes and workshops designed to enhance performance, self-development, and life skills. Through theatre arts education, we help students of all ages develop and nurture self-confidence, self-esteem, creative expression, and communication.

Founded by well-known local theatre director Tish Lyon, Dream Makers Studio makes theatre arts training engaging, fun, and exciting for all ages with a year-round schedule of classes, workshops, and seminars taught by experienced theatre artists and educators. Each class provides an enriching environment designed to expand imaginations and unleash creativity through active participation and interaction.

Small Classes Encourage Maximum Participation

The success of any arts-related class depends on being able to participate and develop skills while in the classroom setting. That's why Dream Makers Studio limits each class to a small number of students. That means a better teacher/student ratio, greater opportunity for interaction, more individualized learning, and plenty of working time for each student. Because class sizes are small, every minute of every session can be productive for every student.

Dream Makers for Kids

At Dream Makers, theatre arts education for kids means a fun, exciting, and totally engaging experience. One that makes your child eager to come to class. To discover. To achieve. To shine.

Theatre arts education means more than simply performing on a stage. At Dream Makers Studio, it's all about empowering children with valuable life skills and performance excellence they'll be able to use throughout their lives.

While some youngsters may pursue education and careers in the arts, we recognize that most will go on to other educational experiences and professions. That's why each Dream Makers class is designed to nurture the essential skills every child needs-whatever his or her educational or career dreams.

Using the theatre arts-improvisation, scene work, and script analysis-students learn how to prepare, work effectively in groups, accept and give advice, evaluate ideas, establish standards of performance, and clearly communicate through words, gestures, listening, response, action, and follow-through.
  • Communication-expressing ideas clearly through voice and action
  • Analysis-understanding the who, what, where, why of a situation
  • Decision making-making choices, taking action, following through
  • Teamwork-using imagination to build on the ideas of others
  • Self-confidence- overcoming "stage fright", speaking in front of an audience.
  • Responsibility-being prepared, owning decisions and actions
  • Cooperation-working within established rules, taking direction, empathy
These essential skills help your child grow-in the classroom, on the playground or sports field, in Scouting activities, or in church groups. Many parents discover that when their child participates in theatre arts classes, the youngster develops into a better student, a better listener, and becomes more responsive and empathetic to others.

Dream Makers for Adults

Are you thinking about getting involved in theatre, but don't know where to start? Want to hone your talents as a theatre artist, but want a class close to home or work? Dream Makers Studio offers classes specifically designed for your level of interest and skill-and at locations throughout the Northwest Suburbs.

A Dream Makers Studio class gives you the skills-and the time-to explore, discover, and grow in a safe, nurturing environment. From audition skills to Second City-style improv to scene study and directing, you'll find the right combination of quality instruction and engaging, exciting work.

Each class limits enrollment to a small group of students. That means you always have maximum opportunities to work in every session and receive more individualized feedback from the instructor.

Is a Theatre Arts Class Right for You?

Theatre arts education means more than becoming an actor. Theatre arts education for adults develops valuable skills everyone can use for a more successful life. After all, the single biggest fear most adults share is speaking in front of a group. A theatre arts class can help you overcome this limitation in a non- threatening, supportive way.

Dream Makers Studio classes use theatre arts-improvisation, role playing, scene study, and script analysis- to help you become a more effective, passionate communicator. Working with a small group of people just like you, each Dream Makers Studio session encourages greater self-confidence and skill. We help you become a better listener, more responsive to others' body language, and more empathetic to subtle conversational "subtext."

Our classes help enrich your imagination so you become a more spontaneous, creative thinker and problem solver. Perfect for teachers, PTO board members, lawyers, sales people, consultants, managers, administrative assistants, and professionals in related fields. In short, any work or volunteer situation where your responsibilities may include:
  • Participating in or leading meetings
  • Making presentations
  • Interacting with the public
  • Persuading others of your ideas
  • Working with teams
  • "Thinking outside the box"

Come learn with us. Come grow with us. Come dream with us.
